Have you ever heard the saying “slow and steady wins the race”? This old phrase does have a lot of merit to it. In today’s society, we are looking for the quickest fix and solution. This does not mean that it will always work. Especially when it comes to health and wellness. Health promotion and prevention takes time and involves a lot of work upfront, often using non-invasive therapies that take some time to work. Clinically, I have seen hundreds of patients that have struggled with thyroid disease for many years and have only been taking medication to treat their condition, however, they continue to experience symptoms such as weight gain, brain fog, fatigue, hair thinning and cold intolerance. I often have to educate the patient that the total solution is to look at underlying root causes and develop a plan that works on treating the solid foundation and start from there. This approach can be time consuming and can take a lot of work upfront. Early identification of potential health problems can prevent disease and improve the quality of life.
The functional approach is to look and focus on WHY the issue is a problem to begin with. Usually, this can be attributed to underlying toxins, food intolerances, nutrient deficiencies and genetics. Fortunately, these days we are able to test and treat using natural alternatives in addition to using conventional medications for a total and integrative approach to well-being. Check out my article on how to naturally reduce thyroid antibody levels for more information using this approach.
